#BizintheGig Spotlight: Gig Harbor MarKee & New Listings on Tour
These lady bosses are so, so fun and so is their coffee shop! Read on for your free cup of Gig Harbor MarKee joe when you comment on the blog.
Y’all know I’m a lover of small businesses and small towns in Washington — especially Gig Harbor. Every Thursday I’m bringing these two loves together. Follow along as I #tourthegig, visit gorgeous, just-listed homes, and then spotlight a #bizinthegig from among our community’s many fabulous small businesses. Bonus: each Thursday when I highlight a small business, I’ll also do a giveaway for everyone who comments right here on the blog!
#BizintheGig: I had the awesome opportunity last week to sit down with the highly entertaining duo that is Courtney Marshall and Angie Keefe: co-owners of Gig Harbor MarKee, supermoms, community connectors, and lovers of Rosé.
We might have had way too much fun as we talked about MarKee life, 2 pm wine tastings, Sunday Jazz Brunch, and their passion for supporting all kinds of local businesses from local coffee to local beer to local artists and local musicians. Check out our sweet video!
Gig Harbor MarKee opened 18 months ago and it immediately became one of my perpetual faves. You’ll constantly find me there lunching with family, meeting with clients, picking up a quick coffee to go, or chatting with friends over a “treat yo’self” wine. MarKee has a vibrant and dynamic ambiance with plenty of seating beneath large windows, a choice selection of fantastic food (each one of Courtney and Angie’s kids has an honorary item on the menu), and delicious libations, but it is the authentic soul behind the business that makes MarKee stand out. Courtney and Angie strive to make their coffee shop and wine bar a reflection of the heart of our community by creating a social kinship through being kid friendly, family friendly, and local business friendly (did you know that SUP, Stand Up for Peninsula Schools, was brainstormed right here?). This community supporting passion is the nucleus that makes this particular hotspot so unique, you’ll find that there is no such thing as a stranger at MarKee.
By day, Gig Harbor MarKee is full of local professionals holding business meetings, local families enjoying coffee, and local friends connecting after morning workouts. By night, MarKee brings the neighborhood together in a whole different way with a myriad of events from trivia to open mic to comedy to bunco to live music and jazz from local musicians. MarKee offers their space for free on Monday and Thursday evenings for community events. They also offer catering for hosted events or for pick-up. (Take my word for it, their meat and cheese plates are FAB!)
Courtney Marshall, the “Mar” in MarKee, is mom to two adorable children and went to Gig Harbor High School. Angie Keefe, the “Kee” to the shop, has 3 little nuggets and went to rival, Peninsula High School. The two of them hit it off in college at UPS, and the rest is history.
They are true champions of small business and supporters of many things, but, like me, have a particular heart and passion for education. Angie is active on the Stand Up for Peninsula Schools committee and often holds events to benefit many of Gig Harbor’s local education foundations. Whether you are a coffee lover or a night owl, Gig Harbor MarKee has something for everyone.
Connect with these ladies on Instagram @ghmarkee, get to know this neighborhood gathering place, and be constantly amused by their insta-stories (Courtney is especially hilarious and random).
