Home Crush of the Season: 3414 Harborview Drive

A Historic Millville Treasure

If you’ve ever walked along the downtown waterfront, you’ve probably stopped in front of the home with the wrap-around porch and jaw-dropping harbor views. Nestled in the heart of Millville—Gig Harbor’s original fishing village—3414 Harborview Drive is a living piece of local history, blending craftsmanship, community, and the unmistakable charm of harbor life.

More Than a Century of Harbor Heritage

Built in 1888 by early Croatian settler Joseph Dorotich, this home has watched Gig Harbor evolve from a working waterfront to the vibrant coastal community we know today. Though Dorotich constructed the home to sell—long before "real estate development" was a local industry—the property soon found its way into the hands of Gig Harbor Lumber Company employees, and later fisherman Dominic Skrivanich, whose family cherished it for generations. For decades, locals simply called it the Skrivanich house.

Hand-built with reclaimed wood and sheets of old newspaper tucked between the walls for insulation, the home is a testament to the grit and ingenuity of the harbor’s earliest residents. Its preserved millwork and original details continue to tell their story more than a century later.

Loved Through Generations

For the last 42 years, this special home belonged to Tomi Kent Smith, who raised her family here and whose dog Luna became a familiar morning sight along Harborview Drive. Tomi extended the wrap-around porch, adding comfort while maintaining the home’s original spirit. Though the renovation removed it from the Washington State Historic Register, it remains one of the most authentic examples of early Gig Harbor architecture.

Next door, the adjoining lot—long used by fishermen to dry their nets and later as a play space for Tomi’s children—was sold in fall 2025. It now begins a new chapter with owners ready to build their own Millville legacy.

Historic Craftsmanship Meets Modern Life

Just under 1,300 square feet, the home features three bedrooms upstairs, a full bath downstairs, and a rare two-car garage—an absolute prize in downtown Gig Harbor. Its sale for $1.1M in early fall 2025 reflects its unbeatable blend of history, heart, and Harborview location.

Step outside and you’re moments from Susanne’s Bakery, Harbor Nest, Skansie Park concerts, the annual tree lighting, and holiday parades that turn Millville into a postcard. To stand on this porch is to stand in the living rhythm of Gig Harbor itself—built by fishermen, loved by families, and now welcoming a new generation of harbor dreamers… including Ferguson the cat, who has a known fondness for Millville Pizza and big front porches.

It’s an honor to share the story of 3414 Harborview Drive, a cornerstone of Gig Harbor’s heritage where history and harbor life meet.
