Gig Harbor Brewing Co. and Tap Room

Let Gig Harbor’s top real estate agent, Paige Schulte, walk you through town and introduce you to the small business owners of Gig Harbor. Gig Harbor boasts a vibrant downtown scene lined with local business owners along with delicious eats from Uptown to Downtown Gig Harbor. Read on to hear about how Gig Harbor Brewing Co. got started here in the harbor.

John Fosberg is a small business connoisseur and a beer enthusiast. After spending the better part of 40 years owning a variety of companies, he decided one snowy winter’s night over a pint of ale in Nuremberg, Germany that his next endeavor would be to establish his own craft beer brewery. In January 2015 Fosberg did just that, founding Gig Harbor Brewing Co. Taproom & Brewery in Tacoma. Following its considerable success, he opened the Gig Harbor Brewing Co. Harbor Taproom in the spring of 2018.

Fosberg, who is Puget Sound born and bred, took his main inspiration for the beer styles that Gig Harbor Brewing Co. produces from the history of Gig Harbor. His easy drinking traditional-style ales boast names like Round Rock IPA, Racing Rooster Red, Hazy Harbor IPA, and Kopachuck Pale Ale. The Giggly Blonde Ale is a crowd favorite, but Fosberg also recommends his all-time go-to pint: the Sturdy Gertie Double IPA. Gig Harbor Brewing Co. Harbor Taproom serves only beer, cider, and wine, but they welcome you to bring your own food or order from any one of the numerous restaurants nearby. Gig Harbor Brewing Co. has a vibe for everyone with a cozy interior complete with overstuffed furniture, a fireplace, and soft lighting for quiet conversations or large flat screens and shuffleboard for those who want to mix and mingle while watching the big game. If the weather is warm, grab a seat on the deck and enjoy peaceful views of the harbor with a frosty pint. Be sure to check Gig Harbor Brewing Co.’s social media sites for updates about karaoke nights, taproom trivia events, and live musical performances.

Fosberg and team, which includes his son Max and Head Brewer Mike O’Hara, take pride in partnering with local community groups, businesses, and organizations including The Trolley at the Boatyard, Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard, Gig Harbor Film Festival, Galaxy Theatres, Gig Harbor Beer Festival, Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, and Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce. Gig Harbor Brewing Co. works with several local nonprofit organizations including the Kiwanis Club of Gig Harbor and Harbor WildWatch, as well as contributing product and prizes to other neighborhood fundraising events.
